Somers Point

Life at the shore starts here.

Welcome to Somers Point

Life at the shore starts here.

Surrounded by the sea, sand, bay, and land, Somers Point is the epitome of life on the Jersey Shore. From nature and history to shopping and dining - and particularly fishing and crabbing - you’ll have easy access to it from a home here or in nearby Linwood, Northfield, or Egg Harbor Township. As the “gateway to the shore,” this fishing town is ideal for those seeking a quiet, peaceful lifestyle by the ocean.

Incorporated in 1888, Somers Point is a former shipbuilding center and home to sea captains, fishermen, and clammers. Recorded history predates incorporation, however. The oldest home in Atlantic County, Somer’s Mansion, was built in 1725 and is now open for public tours, providing a look at the life of the very first Somers Point settlers.

Local Lifestyle

Welcoming families to the Jersey Shore, Somers Point provides a pretty, relaxing ambiance for summer dwellers and year-round residents. When not playing on the lawns or beach of John F. Kennedy Park, they might be sailing off into the sunset from one of the many marinas in town. Friends gather for rounds of golf at the Greate Bay Country Club or at one of the many seafood restaurants or steakhouses. Boating and fishing are the two most popular hobbies, so for those who adore all things maritime, this is a perfect spot to call home.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

In Somers Point, it’s rare to go out to dinner and not see a friend or neighbor. Embrace the “where everyone knows your name” ambiance of the town and pull up a chair at Charlie’s Bar, a local institution since 1944. Be sure to try the famous wings. With a long and storied history, Gregory’s is another beloved landmark restaurant and bar. Pop in for comfort food, draft beer, and good conversation.

In keeping with the historic eatery trend, The Anchorage Tavern is the oldest continuously operated business in Somers Point. Located in the Bay Historical District, the locally owned restaurant and bar brims with memorabilia, wonderful food, and refreshing cocktails. Irish hospitality exudes from every corner of Josie Kelly’s, known for its authentic Irish recipes, rare whiskeys, craft beers, and live music. Round out the perfect summer day at The Point, with great turns, unbeatable drinks, and fresh breezes - as close to tropical as you can get here on the sunny Jersey Shore.

Things to Do

Everyone in town loves the annual Somers Point Bayfest, South Jersey’s largest single-day festival. Celebrate spring and the coming of summer as you browse more than 100 crafter booths, listen to live music, sample treats from the region’s most popular food vendors, and entertain the kiddos with face painting, pony rides, and bouncy houses.

During the summer, gather on William Morrow Beach every Friday for the free concert of the week. Join friends and neighbors at Greate Bay Country Club for championship golf followed by a fine meal in a casual setting at the Park Room. Attend a live performance at the Gateway Playhouse, which also hosts a monthly piano bar evening.
